If only he'd been able to maintain, Cinmeon Bowers might have had a great couple years for Florida State. The burly power forward is a genuine high-major talent, but his next step has become uncertain.
The Seminoles announced on Thursday that they had released Bowers from his signed letter of intent. Bowers' arrest — which resulted after he allegedly ate the marijuana in order to avoid police detection — certainly didn't place him in great stead with the program, though the FSU release did not include an explanation for the release. Chipola (Fla.) JC suspended him (and two others) for multiple games, apparently not a harbinger of positive things in the eyes of Florida State.
Bowers now will be free to sign with the program of his choice. Though saddled with baggage, he's a powerful and skilled interior scorer with surprisingly nimble feet for his size.
He has battled weight problems and, at 6-6, obviously lacks ideal height for the post. Still, he's good enough to start for an ACC program and, based on ability, would have ample options for the next level.
