Recruiting heating up for Ahmad

Four-star Esa Ahmad has had a big year, and he continues to pick up recruiting attention.

A major improvement during the high school season and a strong start to his AAU season has made the recruitment of Shaker Heights (Ohio) product Esa Ahmad more intense. The 6-foot-7 forward now is hoping to make visits, and see some of the schools showing him a lot of interest.

"It was a good year," said Ahmad of the high school season. "We finished 21-6 and lost in the regional semis, but overall it went really well."

He continued, "I think my game came along well. I picked it up a lot. I had to be a leader of the team and I think I did that."

Recruiting wise Ahmad now has offers from Cincinnati, Maryland, Xavier, West Virginia, Rutgers, Indiana, Wisconsin, Dayton, Clemson, and Iowa State. Also a handful of other power programs are stepping up their interest in Ahmad.

About the pickup in his recruiting, Ahmad said, "It has been crazy, but I know I have to remain humble and keep working hard."

Visit wise, Ahmad is hoping to check out a quartet of schools in the near future.

"I am trying to set things up with Michigan, Michigan State, West Virginia, and Wisconsin," said Ahmad.

Michigan is one school that hasn't offered, but it is possible after a trip to campus that could change.

"They like my game and my versatility," said Ahmad of Michigan. "The coaches want me to get up there on a visit and see the campus and meet the team and everything. That is a program I like."

Also Michigan's rival, Michigan State is hoping to make an impression when they get him on campus.

"They want me to get up and see the campus," noted Ahmad. "I am looking forward to it since they are always one of the best schools in the country."

The most recent offer for Ahmad came from Wisconsin, and the Badgers are definitely going to be a factor going forward.

"That was a big offer," said Ahmad of Wisconsin. "We have an All-Ohio alum who plays for them in Nigel Hayes, so that was exciting to get an offer from them."

In the past Ahmad has indicated that West Virginia is recruiting him the hardest, and Ahmad is very interested to check out the campus and meet with Coach Bob Huggins.

"I love that program," said Ahmad of West Virginia. "Me and Coach Huggins talk all the time. He is trying to recruit me at the two. I just love the program, the coaching staff, and the players."

Ahmad and his All-Ohio Red team won the NY2LA Swish N Dish to start off the AAU season, and he feels that this is just the beginning.

"We can have a big summer as long as we stay focused and play hard every game," said Ahmad. "I think we can have a real big summer."
