Cartwright chooses Providence

Kyron Cartwright joined Providence's 2014 recruiting class on Monday night, moments after the conclusion of the national championship game.

Kyron Cartwright didn't take long to become the first commitment of the off-season. Formerly signed with LMU, the 5-foot-11, 165-pound Compton (Calif.) 2014 point guard committed to Providence on Monday night.

Following an official visit, Cartwright ended his second recruitment by pledging to the Friars.

"I liked it; I liked the coaching staff and the players a lot," Cartwright said. "They made a good impression on me right away.

"I liked the campus. It's not too big and not too small. The people there are really nice and it's a good environment. They've very supportive."

Cartwright feels that he can find his way into Providence's lineup early in his career.

"They see me coming in during the summer and getting better," he said. "I probably won't play much at the beginning of the season but once I get used to it and gain experience I'll be playing a lot more."

The speedy guard feels he will help Providence, especially with his ability to make plays on the break.

"I think I bring a competitive nature, one they already have," Cartwright said. "I'll be really good in transition. I'm really happy"
