Thompson Going Through Process

Stephen Thompson, a high-scoring junior shooting guard from Southern California, has an idea about schools he'd like to visit in the fall...

Stephen Thompson, 6-3 JR SG Torrance (Calif.) Bishop Montgomery, is one of the best scorers in the West Coast class of 2015. A very good shooter with deep range, Thompson has the ability to score from a variety of spots on the floor. He's a good, not great, athlete with a very good feel for the game. He's got a somewhat slight frame and there is a question as to how much weight he'll be able to add. But his high skill level, and very good approach to the game, makes him a terrific prospect.

I spoke with Thompson recently and he gave me a list of schools that have been in contact with him.

"San Diego State, USC, Arizona State, Gonzaga and Vanderbilt have been the main ones," said Thompson.

Thompson said each school has offered a scholarship.

I asked Thompson about the main factors that will influence his decision.

"Probably a school where I can contribute from the very beginning," said Thompson. "Someplace where I can get a lot of playing time and contribute."

When asked if location will play a role, Thompson said, "No, not really, that doesn't matter."

I asked Thompson if he has a feel for which schools are recruiting him the hardest.

"They're pretty even in terms of that," said Thompson.

Thompson has been on unofficial visits to USC and San Diego State.

"USC is a nice school and I like the facilities" said Thompson.

When asked about San Diego State, Thompson said, "It's a very nice campus. I like the facilities as well as the coaching staff. Both staffs are very relatable."

Asked if he has any plans for more visits, Thompson said, "I think I may go up to Stanford soon for an unofficial visit. After that, I'll probably wait until fall to take official visits."

Thompson has a few schools in mind for official visits.

"I'll probably visit Vanderbilt, Arizona State, Gonzaga and New Mexico," said Thompson.

Thompson said he will most likely sign in the fall.
