Aric Holman didn't score many points during the games I watched last weekend at the Jayhawk Invitational, but the 6-9, 190-pound center demonstrated sufficient talent to warrant mention.
Though obviously quite thin, Holman looks comfortable in the paint. He utilizes his length to block shots and pick off rebounds, and he runs plenty well for the college level. His offense is very much a work in progress, but on one occasion he made a nice dropstep and attempted left hand finish (which missed) that looked good coming off his hand.
While he still has not drawn huge offers, he already holds interest and is likely to gain more attention in coming weeks.
The Gophers were among those to watch Holman in action over the weekend, and if he can convert some of those nice-looking post moves, he'll make himself a much safer bet to accumulate more offers.
"Shotblocking is my strength," Holman said. "I really just need to get stronger. I'm building (my recruitment) up right now and they are looking at me more like a forward."
Holman's story likely has many chapters remaining, and we'll continue to follow him as he navigates the circuit as well as his recruiting process.
