Smith narrows to 10

Ray Smith is down to 10 schools. Who made the cut and where does the 2015 prospect go from here in his recruitment?

One of the top prospects on the West Coast in 2015 is making some progress narrowing down his recruitment.

Ray Smith, a 6-foot-8, 180-pound small forward from Las Vegas, has narrowed his list to Arizona, Arizona State, California, Georgetown, Louisville, Oregon, Texas, UCLA, USC and Wake Forest.

"He picked the schools where he felt comfortable with the head coaches and recruiters," said Ray's father, Bobby Smith. "All of those schools have been on him a while. He felt the time was right to start narrowing things down."

Smith will cut his list in half before he takes the next step in his recruiting process.

"He's going to narrow it down to five somewhere around the end of June and those will be the five visits," Bobby said.

"He's starting to really narrow it down. I would almost say he's narrowed it down to five already. I've told him to take his time because he has the time."

While Smith may set up five official visits, whether or not he takes them all remains to be seen.

"I can't promise you that but he'll have five on the list. The goal is to see all five," said Bobby. "Knowing Ray, if he goes somewhere and it feels really good, he'll probably say, 'Dad, I don't want to go anywhere else' and it will be done."

A fall decision remains the goal as of now.

"He was going to make an earlier decision but the schools want him to visit while school is in session, which will be in August," Bobby said. "So I'm guessing he'll decide in September, but that's just a guess."

As of now, one school is set to receive an unofficial visit in the near future,

"We're supposed to be going to UCLA unofficially the first week in June," said Bobby.
