Stewart to USC
Sunday was a big day for the USC program, as the Trojans picked up a huge commitment from 6-foot-4, 180-pound Los Angeles Westchester shooting guard Elijah Stewart. "The coaches and just the environment I'm going to be surrounded in," Stewart responded when asked about his commitment.
"If I ever need anything I got family out here and coaches out here. If I need extra work on something I can go to my high school coaches and my aau coaches. I have a lot of support out here."
Scout.com's 40th ranked prospect in the 2014 class, Stewart gives USC one of the best senior scorers in the country.
"Elijah Stewart was one of the top performers I saw during the high school season," said Scout.com national recruiting analyst Evan Daniels. "His ability to score, combined with his size, length and athleticism make him a Top 50 prospect.
"This is a significant pickup for USC. It now has a pair of wings in Stewart and Malik Marquetti that can be instant contributors."
Originally an LMU signee, Stewart is a late bloomer who blew up during his senior year. Following the dismissal of LMU head coach Max Good, Stewart received a release from his Letter of Intent.
Prior to committing to USC, Stewart took official visits to Cincinnati and Oklahoma State. He officially visited USC this weekend, committing to the Trojans at the tail end of the trip.
Stewart cited a strong bond with the USC coaches among the many reasons he opted for the Trojans.
"Tony [Bland] is cool," Stewart said. "We went through the same things in high school. We all got the same vision. He wants to develop me as a player and help me to the next level."
"Coach Enfield, he's a real good coach," he said. "I heard what he did at Florida Gulf Coast. His style of play is how Westchester plays with the run and gun and looking for the open man."
Stewart joins Jordan McLaughlin, Malik Marquetti, Malik Price-Martin and Jabari Craig in what has become one of the best classes nationally in 2014.
