Simmons gives update

There aren't many more talented guards in the country than Kobi Simmons, and he is seeing his recruitment pick up in a big way.

Five-star class of 2016 prospect Kobi Simmons was one of the top performers at the adidas Gauntlet in Indianapolis. Playing with the Atlanta Celtics, Simmons put on a show proving he is more than capable of playing both the point guard and shooting guard positions. With that tremendous play, Simmons is also seeing his recruitment expand.

At Alpharetta (Ga) St. Francis Simmons had a fantastic sophomore season, one that ended with a state championship.

"It was good high school season," said Simmons. "We ended up winning state this time giving us our first ring. That was obviously our goal from day one and it was just a great season."

With a lofty ranking and a state title to his credit it would be easy for Simmons to relax, but he says there is no time for that.

"I think I am playing well, but you can always do better," said Simmons. "I am working on everything. There is no reason you can't always get better, so I am working on everything."

Recruiting wise numerous schools came out to see Simmons during the April evaluation period.

"I had Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, Wake Forest, Ohio State, Providence, Tennessee, Auburn, just schools like that," said Simmons.

Kentucky is a school that has long been mentioned with Simmons, and he says the Wildcats remain very much in the mix in his recruitment.

"My parents are talking to them right now," said Simmons of UK. "I know they are recruiting me right now and they like my game, so we will just have to see how things go in the future."

Another school that has been very active in recruiting Simmons is Ohio State. The Buckeyes have been in constant contact with Simmons.

"Ohio State is recruiting me hard," said Simmons. "We have been talking daily and they saw me at my school, so they have been recruiting me pretty hard."

A school with a long standing connection to Simmons is Auburn. His cousin, Allen Payne, attended the school, and Simmons has been there several times to visit.

"I like Auburn a lot," explained Simmons. I visited a couple of times and Allen is my cousin. They have come on really hard with him being there and everything, and they are a school I am definitely going to consider."

For now Simmons isn't rushing into anything, but he does know what he will be focused on when it is time to make his college decision.

"I am looking for a good coaching staff, good players, academics, style of play, and things like that," said Simmons.
