Maurice ready for summer

Team Loaded has become synonymous with action, and the Adidas-backed squad has become a prime target for mix tape organizations. Sensational 2016 guard Dennis Smith claims most of the credit for that phenomenon, but Maurice also has capitalized from the exposure.

Isaiah Maurice continues to play his way toward the upper echelon of Division I basketball. The slender power forward possesses impressive mobility and competes with a fluid style, good hand-eye coordination and steady balance.

While others in the 6-9 size range may be more explosive, Maurice also is a fairly good athlete and jumps well with a running start. His hands enable him to make tough catches in traffic, and he has a nice touch around the rim.

The first time I spoke to Maurice, several months ago, he was in the process of backing off an early pledge to Old Dominion. Since then, several new colleges have entered the picture as the July evaluation period approaches.

"UMass contacted me, and I have George Mason, UNC-Wilmington, Colgate and Northeastern," Maurice said. "Colgate and Northeastern have offered."

Despite the fact that he plays a secondary role to Smith, Maurice has blended in well as a finisher and occasional face-up scorer. He also realizes that he must continue to evolve.

"Schools say that I look athletic on film and they like the way I run the floor," Maurice said. "Now, I'm working on my perimeter shooting and gaining weight."

While he focuses on development, recently an ACC school connected with Maurice as well.

"Clemson contacted me about going to their elite camp," he said.

Maurice will continue to tour with Team Loaded and likely will receive more mid- and potentially high-major offers by the end of summer.
