2016 Intro: Micah Thomas

You might say he's a couple years away from fully ripening, but then, Thomas is a couple years away from even finishing his high school career.

At last weekend's Pangos Camp, Micah Thomas emerged as one of the event's new names to monitor. He's a skinny yet talented forward who right now plays something of a combo forward role but may grow into a stretch forward for college.

Thomas already possesses above-average athleticism and should become quicker and more explosive as he gains natural strength. He definitely looks and plays young, yet he managed to be effective in Long Beach against older, stronger peers.

He relishes his shooting opportunities and swished numerous threes thanks to a nice stroke. He has an unorthodox release (much of his three-point shot is one-handed), but his elbow and follow-through appear mechanically sound.

He's also tall enough at 6-7 to contribute on the glass and to block an occasional shot.

Thomas himself realizes that he must work hard to improve, but already some college programs are keeping tabs.

"Auburn, Memphis, Wichita State and Georgia are interested in me," Thomas said. "They are recruiting me for the three and the four, and I like both positions."

Thomas will continue to tour with the Team Thad 16s, where he can focus on skill development while gradually either growing in height or putting on needed weight. His body requires time to catch up, but he's assuredly a talent to monitor for the high-major level going forward.
