Spalding ramps up play
Raymond Spalding, a 6-foot-9, pushing 6-10, power forward out of Louisville (Ky.) Trinity, is on the rise. Up to No. 65 in Scout.com's updated 2015 top 100, Spalding has shown flashes of his potential this spring, but he ramped that up this week playing with the Kentucky Junior All-Stars. In two games, one against the Indiana Juniors and one against the Kentucky Seniors, Spalding was aggressive and assertive on both ends. He ran the floor, rebounded his area and contested shots. "I'm just playing harder and being confident in myself," Spalding told Scout.com. Spalding has the tools to be an effective offensive player. He has impressive hands, good touch around the rim and is developing a go-to hook over his left shoulder. "I'm working on it every day," he said. On the recruiting front, Spalding indicated that he hasn't narrowed down his list. "I'm still looking," the four-star recruit said. "I haven't committed anywhere yet. I'm keeping it all open." Spalding claims 13 scholarship offers and listed ones from Vanderbilt, Xavier, Clemson, Indiana, Boston College, Georgia Tech and Northwestern. He also cited interest from Kentucky, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Georgia, Alabama and Louisville. While the in-state schools haven't offered Spalding, both have been talking to him about visits. "They want me to come up and visit sometime in July," Spalding said about the Kentucky staff. Spalding will take an unofficial visit to Louisville on Wednesday. "We are talking to them a lot," he said about the Cardinals. "I talk to coach Kenny Johnson, who just transferred over there. They want me to come through on Wednesday to play with the guys." Spalding said he's also looking to take a couple other visits. He said he hasn't set a date to visit Xavier, but was planning to "sometime in August." He also has a visit set for Northwestern on January 28th. Spalding is planning to finish out the AAU circuit playing with The Ville. He also said he's planning to play in the Reebok Breakout Camp in Philadelphia (Pa.) during the first live period.
