Pair of weekend commits

The biggest recruiting story of the weekend, while not at all surprising, was Tyler Dorsey's de-commitment from Arizona. But on Sunday some other news broke leading into the new week.

Back in the fall of 2003, I watched Longar Longar on the same day I first saw Kevin Durant. It had been awhile since I'd thought of Longar, but the former Oklahoma big man sprung to mind when Sooners Illustrated's Bob Przybylo reported that Akolda Manyang — Longar's cousin — had committed to Oklahoma.

Like Longar a decade ago, Manyang will represent the Sooner program and give the club a great deal of size. Listed as a seven-footer, Manyang averaged nine points, six rebounds and three blocks per game as a freshman last season for Indian Hills (Iowa).

A native of the Sudan, he attended high school in the Minneapolis area prior to advancing to Indian Hills. Manyang is Oklahoma's first commitment from the Class of 2015.

Meanwhile, Illinois guard Prentiss Nixon has committed to Colorado State, according to his Twitter account.

"Officially committed to Colorado St University!" Nixon wrote.

The explosive wing impressed colleague Brian Snow at the Spiece Run 'N Slam this past spring, showcasing athleticism and a capable perimeter jump shot.

Nixon didn't always post big numbers for the Illinois Wolves on the Under Armour circuit, but according to the Association website he did enjoy a 20-point game in a victory over Team Breakdown.
