Northwestern contacts Nick Rakocevic

Northwestern contacted 2016 power forward Nick Rakocevic of Westchester (Ill.) St. Joseph's, which could begin a long recruitment.

Talented big man Nick Rakocevic told that Northwestern contacted him this weekend.

The 2016 power forward prospect from Westchester (Ill.) St. Joseph's has been labeled the top player in Illinois for his class.

As unlimited calls finally became available to coaches, the NU staff quickly moved to reach Rakocevic. He fits into their overall vision: At 6-foot-10, he can control the perimeter with his range and skill.

As well, it should be noted that recent commit Dererk Pardon plans to play center for the Wildcats. That leaves space at power forward, with incoming freshman Gavin Skelly their lone option.

Rakocevic fielded minor interest from NU in the past. They've seen him play, of course, given that he plays for the same high school team as 2015 commit Jordan Ash.

Now, the Wildcats could make a run in his already crowded recruitment. Rakocevic holds offers from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Miami (Fla.) and Creighton. He also plans to visit Iowa on June 20, and reportedly Xavier as well.

Rakocevic told PW that he will make plans to visit Northwestern at some point.

The Wildcats, patient in recruiting, did not appear to make immediate contact with any other prospects.
