Collins quickly adding offers
Heading into the spring, not many coaches were aware of 6-foot-10, 220-pound Las Vegas Bishop Gorman center Zach Collins. Playing behind Stephen Zimmerman and Chase Jeter last year, Collins has been somewhat in the background, while fellow West Coast 2016 centers like De'Ron Davis, M.J. Cage, Jayce Johnson and Trevor Stanback have gotten the bulk of the recruiting attention. However, a two-inch growth spurt from the beginning of his sophomore season to now and a very productive spring playing with DreamVision 16u has put Collins' name on the map. All of the sudden, Collins holds offers from Arizona, California, Iowa, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, San Diego, UNLV, USC and Washington. "It was crazy. It went from a lot of coaches not knowing who I was to a lot of attention," Collins said. "It's been a lot of fun. It just makes me want to work more. I know that it's just going to get harder for me from here, so I need to keep getting better." Collins describes himself as a player who can help his team in multiple ways. "I'm very comfortable in the post, but also I'm good at the high post with my jump shot," he said. "I like to pass the ball and get my teammates open shots. "I'm working on everything right now but mostly dribbling, hustling and my athleticism." Collins says he doesn't have any favorites – "I'm just trying to enjoy the process right now," he said – but did grow up watching UNLV. "I grew up in Las Vegas so I always liked going to Rebels games; they're fun to watch," Collins said. Collins hopes to make a decision before his senior year and find a school that fits him on and off the court. "I would like to go to a school that likes big guys and treats me right," he said.
