Southern Cal Gets First Visit
Curtis Withers, a 6-8 power forward from Charlotte (NC) West Charlotte, is beginning to narrow down his list of prospective colleges. Withers said that Southern Cal and Charlotte have a slight lead over Alabama and Florida State.
Charlotte is obviously the hometown school and is a factor. "Because I like the coaches and stuff it's a legitimate choice for me," Withers said.
Southern Cal might be over 3,000 miles away, but Withers likes the Trojans. "The only thing wrong with Southern Cal is the distance. They kept recruiting me when others backed off."
Withers said he's taking an official visit to Southern Cal on Sept. 1 and may just continue checking out Charlotte unofficially. "It might happen late September or October around that time," Withers said. "It's my senior year and I want to get that over with kind of early."
Withers set out on the summer circuit with a goal and his play in Las Vegas helped him answer questions that anyone might have had about his game. "I had to prove some people wrong. There were a lot of doubters."
