NBPA: Sampson has idea on officials
Even though 6-foot-4, 170-pound Baton Rouge (La.) Madison Prep shooting guard Brandon Sampson doesn't plan on making a decision until the fall, he's been able to make some headway in his recruiting process. The 2015 prospect knows of two schools he'll take official visits to. "I'm going to take official visits to California and Saint John's," Sampson said. On top of trips to Cal and Saint John's, if he had to pick three other schools to receive officials as of now, Sampson listed Oklahoma State, LSU and Texas A&M. The four-star prospect broke down what he likes about all five programs. California: "Their assistant coach Yanni (Hufnagel) is my man. I have a real good relationship with coach Yanni and it's a better relationship than a normal coach and player. He talks with me and helps me with my game." Saint John's: "They're really hands on with me too. They come down and see me play a lot and I really like that love. They make me feel like family so I know if I go there it will be all love and they'll take care of me." Oklahoma State: "They call me a lot and came down to see practice a couple times, which showed me they have some real interest in me." LSU: "Living in Louisiana, they recruit me really hard. They call me all the time and I go on campus when I can. They feel like family up there and we have a really good relationship." Texas A&M: "Their coaches really believe that I can be something. They talk to me a lot about how they can get me to the next level. They're very honest with me and tell me when I'm wrong and when I'm right. I love their assistants." Even though Sampson has an idea of what schools he wants to visit, he won't be making a decision anytime soon. "I just want to weigh out my options," he said. "I want to get better and see if I can get some more offers." When Sampson does make a decision, there will be three important factors that he'll be looking at. "Good education, player development and relationship with their staff," Sampson said.
