Evans commits to Rice
Mike Rhoades tapped into his Virginia connections to reel in a commitment Sunday evening. Marcus Evans, of Virginia Beach (Va.) Cape Henry Collegiate, committed to Rhoades and his staff at Rice. Evans was at Rice for an official visit this weekend and gave them a pledge before he left campus. "Main reason was coach Rhoades," Evans told Scout.com. "I really believe in what he is doing here at Rice. I know he is going to turn this program into a national contender and I know he will help me develop my game from his history of developing guards, also the academics and opportunities at this school is second to none." A 6-foot-2 point guard, Evans plays travel team ball with Boo Williams. Evans is a strongly built guard with impressive athleticism. He's also known for his pesky on the ball defense. Evans also considered Old Dominion, UNC-Greensboro, LeHigh and Minnesota. Evans averaged 16 points and six assists as a junior at Cape Henry Collegiate. Evans is Rice's first commitment of the 2015 class.
