2017 Intro: M.J. Walker

M.J. Walker recently finished up his freshman season, but he's already hearing from high major programs.

M.J. Walker just finished up his freshman season at Atlanta (Ga.) Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, but he’s already a known commodity in recruiting circles.

By playing up in the 17’s division for Winfred Jordan’s Atlanta Xpress AAU program, Walker has established himself as one of the top 2017 prospects in the country. A 6-foot-4 guard, he’s strong, athletic and can score.

Early last week, Walker participated in Stephen Curry’s Select Camp. He said his main focus this spring and summer was improving his ball handling.

“Right now is ball handling,” Walker said. “If I don’t grow anymore I still want to be able to handle the ball and get up and down the court and be able to play the point guard position.”

Walker has received early attention from schools like Florida State, Ohio State, Auburn, Georgia and Kennesaw State. He’s taken three unofficial visits as well.

“I went to Georgia one time,” he said. “I’ve been to Auburn. I went by Kennesaw State one time too.”

While Syracuse isn’t currently recruiting Walker, they are the school that he grew up following.

“Right now I like Syracuse,” Walker said. “Their coach, facilities and I like how they play.”

When Scout.com releases 2017 player rankings on Tuesday, Walker will be ranked among the top 15 players in the country.
