Spalding commits to Louisville
Louisville picked up their second commitment of July on Sunday. Raymond Spalding, Scout.com’s No. 66 player, committed to Rick Pitino and his staff. “I decided to commit to the University of Louisville,” Spalding informed Scout.com. “Not only is it a hometown school it’s a great university,” Spalding said. They have a great coach in Rick Pitino and great assistant coach in Kenny Johnson, who came from Indiana. He’s a great guy and a great communicator.” Louisville has recruited Spalding for some time, but offered him a scholarship in mid-June. After playing in two evaluation periods in July, Spalding said it felt like the right time to commit. “Right now the reason I’m making this choice is I just felt like it was time,” he said. “They had really let me know that they really wanted me. They laid it out to me. They offered seven guys at my position and they wanted me to be that one.” A host of schools recruited Spalding. Indiana, Xavier and Tennessee offered him, while Duke had also shown some recent interest. In the end, playing for his local team was what he always wanted to do. “It’s a true blessing to get a scholarship offer from there and to be able to go there and play is dream come true,” Spalding said. “I think I can make a huge impact at the University of Louisville,” he added. “I’m a skilled basketball player and I think they can get me to be tremendous basketball player.” Spalding joins five-star prospect Deng Adel to make up Louisville’s current 2015 recruiting class.
