McQuaid backs off pledge to SMU

One of the top shooters in the 2015 class is back on the board. Matt McQuaid decommitted from SMU on Sunday.

Matt McQuaid opted to reopen his recruitment on Sunday.

McQuaid, a 6-foot-5 wing out of Duncanville (Tex.) High, had committed to Larry Brown and SMU in early May. Team Texas director Wes Grandstaff informed Scout.com of the news.

“The reason for this is he wants to take some visits and make sure he’s making the right college decision,” Grandstaff said.

“SMU and coach Brown are still high on his list,” he added.

Prior to committing to SMU, McQuaid had received scholarship offers from Creighton, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Alabama, Wichita State and Gonzaga.

McQuaid had a terrific showing at the LeBron James Skills Academy during the first July evaluation period. McQuaid is a very good shooter with deep range, but he’s also a solid athlete that can make runners and floaters off two dribbles.

A four-star prospect, McQuaid ranks No. 82 overall in the 2015 class.
