2016 Intro: Gavin Baxter
One of the biggest rising junior sleepers on the West Coast is 6-foot-7, 170-pound Provo (Utah) Timpview power forward Gavin Baxter. The 2016 prospect has grown several inches in the last year and his 7-foot wingspan suggests he's not done yet. He can play inside and out, blocks shots and rebounds. "I play defense well and can guard multiple positions," Baxter said. "I can step outside and hit jumpers. Right now I'm trying to work on my ball handling and court awareness." Baxter holds one early offer, with several other schools showing interest. "I have an offer from Utah State," Baxter said. "I'm being recruited by BYU, Utah, Arizona State, Southern Utah, Stanford and California." Given his parents' ties to the school, it's no surprise that Baxter grew up a BYU fan. "My mom ran track at BYU and my dad played basketball there," he said. Academics will play a role in Baxter's college decision. "I want to go to a school with a good engineering program because that's what I want to major in," Baxter said. "I'll stay close to home or leave; whatever the best situation for me is."
