Siewert drawing attention

A very good shooting post, 2016's Lucas Siewert has several schools recruiting him already.

One of the better post prospects out west in 2016 is 6-foot-9, 220-pound Los Angeles Cathedral's Lucas Siewert.

A native of Brazil, Siewert already has a good amount of experience with international competition.

"He's done a lot of international stuff," said William Middlebrooks, who coaches Siewert at Cathedral and with the Compton Magic Purple.

"He plays with the Brazilian national team. In the last two months he's been Italy and Brazil. He's the youngest guy on the team."

Siewert is a very good outside shooter for a post, who is also improving on the block, both offensively and defensively.

"I'm a good shooter and passer," Siewert says. "I'm working on being a better rebounder."

California, Colorado, Gonzaga, Boston College and Texas Tech are amongst the schools already recruiting Siewert according to Middlebrooks, but his coach says that for now the goal is to keep improving.

"Right now he's just focused on getting better," Middlebrooks said. "His progress has been really good. He's putting the ball on the ground and attacking the rack, he's defending the perimeter, he's guarding two guys in the post and is learning to use his length."

Siewert will be looking for a place that fits his strengths offensively.

"He's looking for the opportunity to be used as a stretch four to make sure he can showcase himself properly and a team he can help win," Middlebrooks said.
