King talks transfer, recruiting
Five-star wing V.J. King made news last week with the decision to transfer from Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent-St. Mary to Fairfax (Va.) Paul VI. The transfer was a decision King felt like he needed to make, and with his high school decided he now is beginning to focus on a college destination. All week long at the USA Basketball tryouts King has been one of the more consistent wings, and overall he says it has been a great experience. “It is great to be here,” said King. “To be here for the second time trying to make the team and being around the great players in our country is a lot of fun.” King made the first round of cuts, and if he does make the 12 member squad which will head to Dubai in August, when he returns he will be at Paul VI instead of St. Vincent-St. Mary. About that decision, King said, “My expectations are to be in a position where I can flourish and as a team we can win games. I am just looking forward to a fresh start and being the best player I can be.” Recruiting wise King has a whole boatload of offers including Ohio State, Arizona, Iowa, Louisville, Wisconsin, and Kansas. About his recruitment, King said, “I’m taking more of a look at the college stuff, but I am taking it slow. Everybody has offered me besides Duke and North Carolina, so that is about it really.” Ohio State was one of the first offers for King, and he says even with his move out of state, he remains high on the Buckeyes. “It definitely doesn’t change things with Ohio State,” King explained. “They are a great program and I definitely keep in contact with them and I still like the program a lot.” King actually spent a good part of his childhood living in North Carolina, and both Roy Williams and Mike Krzyzewski watched him on Friday at the USA trials, and he says both schools have been in contact and are telling him the same thing in regards to an offer. “They are just telling me to keep my head down and keep working and that they will continue to stay in touch,” said King. For now there is no decision plan in place for King, and he and his family are content to take the process slowly.
