Howard holds early offers
One of the better point guards out west in 2017 is 5-foot-10, 165-pound Markus Howard out of Gilbert (Ariz.) Perry. Howard scores a lot of points on his pull-up jumper from midrange, but can pour in buckets from three off the catch and pull. He's shoot-first, but is also a capable passer, especially in transition. "I'm a scorer in many ways but I'm also a leader that gets my teammates involved," Howard said. "I'm working on my on-ball defense as well being a leader by example and voice." So far, Howard holds two offers along with a lot of interest. "Arizona State and Northern Arizona have offered and then I have a lot of interest from schools like Kansas, Florida, Arizona, Oregon, USC and UCLA," Howard said. The Sun Devils have given themselves an early start, offering Howard already. "I love the coaching staff," Howard said of Arizona State. "They're great communicators, they know what they're talking about and it's a player's program." There were two schools that Howard grew up a fan of. "Duke and North Carolina," he said. "Those are my favorite schools." When it comes time to get serious about his recruitment, coaching and style of play will make a difference. "I'd like a coach that's a player's coach and loves to play fast tempo paced game," said Howard. "I'd like to make a decision before my senior year, so likely at the end of my junior year."
