Mitchell cuts list, sets two visits
Donovan Mitchell, who was the breakout star of the July evaluation periods, has his college list to 10. Mitchell, a senior at Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy, told Scout.com the 10 schools he is considering are Creighton, Florida State, Indiana, Providence, Georgetown, Villanova, Louisville, Kansas, Boston College and North Carolina. “I just feel like these 10 are the ones I see myself excelling in and kind of playing there,” Mitchell told Scout.com. Louisville, Georgetown and Villanova offered him following the first evaluation period. On Wednesday, Kansas joined the mix, giving him a scholarship offer from every school on his list except for North Carolina. While Kansas is the latest to offer, they do have a strong relationship with the the 6-foot-3 guard. "Kansas has been there for a while," Mitchell said. "I've known Norm Roberts from when I was younger going against his son. I’ve known him since St. Johns. "Freddie Quartlebaum went to high school with my mom so I’ve known both of them for a long time outside of basketball. I do know they’ve been talking to me since they came to watch Devonte [Graham] so they’ve been on me for a while." Now that Mitchell is down to a working list he's planning to take some college visits. Mitchell will visit Villanova unofficial on Augusta 4th. “As soon as they offered they were talking about me coming to visit,” Mitchell said. “My mom realized that Philly was only two hours away so we wanted to do that. They talked to me about being an impact guy and a key guy to their team and a guy that could give solid minutes. That’s very appealing to me.” Mitchell will then take an official visit to Louisville on August 7th and 8th. “They have just been so persistent,” Mitchell said. “They always tell me, like Villanova, that I could be one of their impact guys right away. They are losing a bunch of guys this season and next season. I would have a chance to start and be a leader on their team. Hopefully if I were to go there I’d be able to showcase my game and do it on national schedule.” Mitchell was also adamant about wanting to set visit dates to Florida State and Indiana in the near future. He said he was trying to decide if he wanted to visit Indiana in August or September.
