Weatherford goes with Purdue

Grant Weatherford made his college decision on Saturday. He's headed to Purdue.

Grant Weatherford grew up following Purdue and on Saturday, while on a visit, he committed to his childhood favorite.

Indiana Elite/Team Indiana coach Mike Fox informed of the news.

“There’s a family connection there,” Fox said. “[Purdue] love the style of play he plays. They see him in the mold of Chris Kramer. He loves their team and loves their staff and he’s close friends with Ryan Cline.”

“That’s where he wanted to go,” Fox said. “He’s a life long Purdue fan. His dad went to Purdue.”

Weatherford had a strong showing this summer playing with Indiana Elite/Team Indiana. A hard-nosed, tough guard, Weatherford is a terrific on the ball defender. Fox said he also has value in his passing.

“He’s a great passer,” Fox said. “He can guard the other teams best player. Even though he’s not a shooter, he can get involved in the offense. He can take the ball to the rim. He can score and he’s really a great passer.”

Weatherford was voted No. 4 by college coaches as the most competitive player of July.

Purdue now has a pair of commitments in the 2015 class. Weatherford joins his AAU teammate, Cline, to make up their current recruiting class.
