Five-star center Chase Jeter is set to make his decision. Here is a look at his recruitment, his talent, and where we think Jeter will end up.
As a freshman Chase Jeter
began opening eyes even if he wasn’t playing a starring role or Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman, and then as time went on the offers began to flow in. Schools such as UNLV
, North Carolina
, and Oregon
all would offer Jeter a scholarship and become major factors in his recruitment.
Jeter and his family took an advanced approach to the recruiting process making several unofficial visits early on and then making official visits later in the process. By the time the spring of his junior year started, Jeter had already made all of his necessary visits and was deep into the decision making process.
While UCLA, UNLV, and even Kansas got some play early on as potential schools to beat for Jeter, it became widely assumed and thought that Duke was the one school he was most interested in. He had an excellent official visit to Duke, and the Blue Devils really seemed to assert their will.
As June turned into July, some began wondering if Jeter and Duke were potentially drifting apart with Kansas getting some major attention.
For his part, Jeter has never seriously tipped his hand in public, but the rumors of his leanings have been fairly loud behind the scenes.
Jeter has turned himself from a talented prospect with huge upside into a player with major production. The improvement that Jeter showed (even after an injury) from the high school season to the AAU season has been impressive.
At roughly 6-foot-11, Jeter runs the floor as well as nearly any big in the class of 2015, he has a nicely developing hook shot on the interior, and has continued to play tougher and become a better rebounder down low.
Still Jeter needs to continue to get stronger, but his production is starting to match his potential, and given his age and immense athletic ability, he still has plenty of room to grow as a player.
: For the last two months every single piece of information has suggested that Jeter will select Duke. He had a great visit to Duke, he likes the system, and Coach K and his staff have done a tremendous job of recruiting him. Quite honestly I couldn’t even begin to guess which other school is seriously in the mix for Jeter. All signs point to him wearing a dark shade of blue and continuing what is an excellent recruiting run for the Blue Devils. Prediction
: Few coaches in college basketball history have done the job Coach K has of identifying and recruiting high level prospects who double as high character kids. Chase Jeter fits that mold perfectly. Duke has done a very good job recruiting Jeter for the last couple of years and all indications over recent months have been that Jeter is leaning in that direction. It's a logical fit for both parties and I'm going to predict that Jeter agrees and chooses Duke. Prediction
