Comanche down to five, sets visits
Chance Comanche has narrowed his school list down to five and set up his remaining four official visits. The 6-foot-11, 200-pound 2015 center from Beverly Hills (Calif.), has already officially visited Connecticut, and will take his remaining trips to Arizona State on Aug. 28, Arizona on Sept. 13, N.C. State on Sept. 27 and UCLA on Oct. 3. UConn will do an in-home visit, which is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 11. Comanche's mother, Melissa McGee, broke down what her son likes about his five finalists. UConn: "With them it's the coaching staff for sure; they have a great staff. It's a great school and their program has great tradition. I like everything about the school, to be honest." Arizona State: "I like Herb Sendek, he has a long history there. It's a good program and a good school with great academics. It's a large public school and we like that. I really like Herb; he's easy to get along with and a father figure to his players." Arizona: "Sean Miller and (Joe) Pasternack are great guys and great coaches. They have the tradition and history there. They have a magnificent weight room - one of the best I've seen - and a great campus." N.C. State: "I like the coaches; Mark Gottfried, Orlando Early and Jeff Dunlap, those are great guys. It's a great program with a great facility; it holds about 18,00 people. Academics are good and there is a lot of history with Jimmy V (Jim Valvano)." UCLA: "They're at home. Coach (Steve) Alford and them are good guys. It's a new staff but I know UCLA and what it is, the tradition of putting out pros, their reputation as a great school academically. It's in our backyard and definitely something we're considering." McGee says that her and Chance are entering the first of four visits with the plan of taking all of them. "I'm pretty confident but there's never a certainty with anything," she said. "It's our intention to take all five but someone could come along and sweep us off our feet. We have taken visits to these schools, done our research and now we're going back again for a final go-through." At the end of the day, Chance's relationship with the coaches will play a big role in his decision. "All the coaches have been contacting Chance directly and building a relationship with him," said McGee. "A lot of it will be how he is with them in person, how he intermingles with them and what kind of vibe he gets. I think this is the last test for us."
