Duke Rankings Breakdown
As usual Mike Kryzewski and the Duke Blue Devils find themselves right near the top of the recruiting rankings. Duke has done a good job of locking in on their top targets, and is in the mix for another elite prospect which could give them one of the best classes in the country when things are all said and done. Already the Blue Devils have locked in a pair of five-star commitments. The class is led by center Chase Jeter. Jeter remained at No. 9 in the rankings on the strength of an excellent July. Once in the top 10 it is extremely tough to move up, and just to keep your spot requires an impressive level of play which Jeter showed. He rebounded the ball better than in the past, showed a better ability to score, and also he is excellent running the floor. He has to continue to improve his strength and desire, but there is a lot to like with Jeter, and he proved while maintaining a spot in the top 10. While Luke Kennard fell from No. 19 to No. 22, he did remain at the five-star level. It was a bit tough to get a great evaluation on Kennard since he was away with the USA Basketball U-18 team for a decent part of the summer, but when he did return he played well. Not to mention he was one of the top scorers on a team that came home with a gold medal. Overall Kennard is one of the elite shooters in the class, but he is definitely more than that. Kennard is more than athletic enough to guard on the wing, he is good going to the rim, and also is a very good passer, though clearly is at his best off the ball. While that is a great duo for Duke, the Blue Devils are working on another high level prospect in Brandon Ingram. Ingram went up from No. 26 to No. 25 in the rankings which obviously isn’t a huge bump, but it did result in a star change for him. Ingram was elevated to five-star status on the strength of an excellent July, especially at the adidas Unrivaled Camp. There Ingram showed he can really score in a variety of ways and has huge upside with his solid athleticism and good size for the wing position. Overall Duke isn’t going to bring in one of the biggest classes in the country, but they will have one of the best with the quality of players they already have and potentially could get
