Cheatham nearing decision

A decision is coming soon for Haanif Cheatham who has six schools still in the mix.

Four-star shooting guard Haanif Cheatham is coming down the home stretch of the recruiting process. The Pembroke Pines (Fla.) Charter standout is beginning to make his official visits and knows when he will decide.

The 6-foot-5 Cheatham saw his stock soar this summer with strong play, and overall he was happy with how things went.

“The summer has been pretty good to me being at all of the top camps,” said Cheatham. “It shows that my hard work has paid off.”

His strong play at those top camps led to significant scholarship offers, and now six schools remain in the mix.

“I have a final six of Marquette, Georgia, Georgetown, Baylor, Florida State, and California,” said Cheatham. “I will be committing on September 5 so I can focus on my senior season.”

He continued, “I have a visit to California next week and the weekend after I am going to Marquette.”

California has been involved with Cheatham since Cuonzo Martin was named Head Coach, and he says he is looking forward to seeing what they have to offer.

“I know it is in California so I know it will be a beautiful campus,” said Cheatham of the visit. “Also the coaching staff is great. Coach Martin and Coach Yanni (Hufnagel) are great. I just know it will be a great visit and I am looking forward to it.”

In terms of Marquette, it is the commitment to basketball that is most appealing to Cheatham.

“Coach Wojo and the history of Marquette basketball are great,” noted Cheatham. “It is a basketball school and they put a huge effort toward basketball and they make sure their players are treated right.”

When September 5 does roll around and it becomes time for Cheatham to make his decision, he knows what will put one school over the top.

“I am looking for a place that just feels like home and makes me a better person on and off the court,” said Cheatham.

Currently Cheatham is the No. 25 shooting guard and the No. 80 player overall.
