Speidel makes choice

Power Forward Josh Speidel was good all summer long, and now he is headed to Vermont.

Three-star power forward Josh Speidel made his decision at his school on Tuesday. The Columbus (Ind) North star had a tremendous spring and summer with Indiana Elite, and now has decided on his school.

With his toughness down low and nice shooting touch out to the mid-range, Speidel played a key role on the Indiana Elite team that came home with the Adidas Fab 48 title. Speidel was a strong role player who shined at the Adidas Unrivaled Camp, and all summer long.

Eventually Speidel narrowed his list of schools down to Vermont, Loyola, Illinois-Chicago, and Ball State before deciding on the Catamounts.

“Josh informed me yesterday that he was going to Vermont,” said Indiana Elite coach Mike Fox. “He said it was a very tough decision, but at the end of the day he felt that was the best place for him.”

Speidel made his official visit to Vermont during the summer, and that along with the job the coaching staff did sealed the deal.

“I know he really liked the campus when he visited there,” explained Fox. “He had a good time, he felt he fit in with the guys and just had a great time.”

Fox continued, “Also the job that Vermont did recruiting him was excellent. Assistant Coach Kyle Cieplicki or Head Coach John Becker were at every one of our games this summer, and just continually showed him attention. As a staff they built not only a strong relationship with Josh, but with his family and I think that was big in his decision.”

This is a big get for Vermont as the 6-foot-6 Speidel should thrive in the America East, and could be an immediate impact player for them.
