Hawgs separate Whitt from chaff

Jimmy Whitt announced for Mike Anderson's Razorbacks this evening, giving Arkansas a big win in the Class of 2015.

Jimmy Whitt became a spring and summer sensation among college coaches, vaulting himself from borderline top 100 prospect all the way to No. 52 in the country.

He chose Arkansas over co-finalists Missouri (had been considered the co-favorite), Illinois, Marquette and SMU. He also had attracted interest from Kansas, North Carolina and others.

He announced at a press conference and added on Twitter:

"Blessed to say that I have verbally committed to The University of Arkansas for basketball #woopigsooie right? ??haha"

According to the Under Armour Association website, Whitt averaged 17 points per game for K.C. Run GMC in 14 total games. He shot an efficient 55 percent from the field, including 83 percent from the free throw line.

His three-point shot is less consistent — he hit only 30 percent from deep — but he's an all-around scorer and playmaker who possesses legitimate combo guard skills.

Arkansas' victory gives the Razorbacks a huge boost. Whitt becomes Anderson's first commitment for the 2015 class and, as a top 60 prospect, ensures that they'll have a backcourt performer on par with the upper division SEC programs.
