Northeast Schools Chasing Mallon
David Mallon was a standout with the Donyell Marshall Foundation at the Big Time in Las Vegas last month. At 6-10, it's tough to miss him. For a relatively unheralded big man, he's skilled and seemingly was getting better and more confident each time out.
Mallon is looking at Siena, UMass, Rhode Island, Pittsburgh, St. Joe's and LaSalle. He hasn't set up any official visits but will conduct in-homes with St. Joe's on Sept. 10 and Rhode Island on the 11th. Next week, he's going to make an unofficial visit to Pittsburgh.
"I'm starting to kind of weed people out and see what they have and narrow it down a little more," Mallon said. By the end of the month, he'd like to be down to four or five schools.
Mallon is a standout in the classroom as well. "I want to go someplace that has a lot of options for when I get out of college. I don't want to end up picking a school based just on basketball."
Last year, he averaged 18 points, 13 boards and 8 blocks. Wouldn't it be nice to finish out a prep career by averaging a triple double with the rare triple part coming in the form of blocked shots? Mallon sure thinks so.
