Big summer equals new interest for Jerome

Ty Jerome, a 6-foot-3 guard out of New York, had a strong summer playing with New Heights. His impressive play led to new offers and interest.

Heading into July, Ty Jerome, a standout at New Rochelle (N.Y.) Iona Prep, didn’t have a high major scholarship offers.

But after helping his New Heights 16’s team to a pair of tournament championships, including one at the Under Armour Finals, Jerome reeled in a host of offers and new interest.

According to Jerome, Virginia, Temple, George Washington, Davidson, St. Joseph’s and Rutgers all offered him post-July. He also cited interest from Stanford, Northwestern, Boston College and Villanova.

“I thought I played the best basketball I’ve every played in my life,” Jerome said about his play during the month of July.

A 6-foot-3 guard, Jerome is versatile and is effective in roles on and off the ball. Jerome is a talented passer, has a good feel for the game and is a very good long-range shooter.

“I think I’m a leader,” Jerome said. “If my team needs to me to control the game I’ll do that or if they need me to hit shots and score, I’ll do that.”

Prior to July, Jerome took unofficial visits to George Washington, Temple and Rutgers. On Thursday he will take another trip to George Washington. Thursday evening he’ll head to Virginia for the weekend.

“I’m trying to get a little more serious about [recruiting],” Jerome said. “I’m starting to narrow down my schools a little bit. The main thing is to see the class above me and where those kids fall.”

“One of the biggest things for my recruiting is I want to go somewhere that I have an opportunity to play right way,” he added.

As a sophomore at Iona Prep, Jerome averaged 14 points and five assists a game.
