Pearl adds another, Williams commits
New Williams has had his official visit date set up with Auburn for quite some time. On Saturday, during the middle of the visit, Williams, a standout at Santa Monica (Calif.) High, verbally committed to Bruce Pearl and his staff at Auburn. "My first thought when I first started thinking about committing to Auburn was mainly because of coach Pearl, his legacy, what he does for his players and how his teams win," Williams told Scout.com. "Meeting the coaching staff, all of them were great. We had a strong connection from when we first started talking. "Once I stepped foot on the campus and felt the atmosphere, I just knew it was the place for me," he added. Williams had a wide range of college interest, primarily because he missed his entire junior season due to an ACL tear. The other schools that recruited Williams were Arizona State, UTEP, Pepperdine, UNLV, New Mexico, Tulsa and a host of others. Williams said he especially developed strong bonds with Auburn coaches Chuck Person and Todd Golden. “First they didn’t under recruit me or over recruit me,” Williams said. “They would call at all the right times. They never called me during class. They would always text me at the right times. There were a lot of schools that called all the time and when I’m in class.” “When they would call they were always straight up,” he added. “They would get straight to the point and let me know what I needed to know. They wouldn’t try to keep me too long and sell, sell, sell. They always kept it real.” Prior to injuring his knee, Williams, a 6-foot-2 guard, displayed impressive speed and athleticism. A true combination guard, Williams is a lefty that can score off the dribble and is also a capable shot maker. A 2015 recruit, Williams is regarded as a four-star prospect. With the addition of Williams, Auburn now holds commitments from three four-star recruits in the 2015 class. Williams joins four-star players Danjel Purifoy and Horace Spencer, as well as Junior College standout T.J. Dunans.
