Jerome makes the call
Junior guard Ty Jerome is headed to Virginia. Just a day after visiting Virginia, Jerome, a 6-foot-3 guard out of New York, committed to Tony Bennett and his staff. Jerome informed Scout.com of the news. "The place is unreal," Jerome said. "The campus, the facilities and the arena are unbelievable. The coaching staff and players are terrific people." After a strong summer playing for New Heights, Jerome picked up scholarship offers from Virginia, as well as Temple, George Washington, Davidson, St. Joseph’s and Rutgers. He also entertained interest from Stanford, Northwestern, Boston College and Villanova. "The confidence coach Bennett has in me and the way he spoke to me really got to me," Jerome said. "He told me what I need to improve and exactly how I need to do it to reach another level. He also showed me exactly how I fit in the system using film and I just feel that I'm not going to find a better place. It's the perfect fit." Heading into the Virginia visit, Jerome wasn't planning to make his college choice, but the trip to Charlottesville, Va. led him to speeding up the process. "I knew I wasn't going to commit on campus because no matter what I wanted to talk about it with my family and a few close people," Jerome said. "So once we took everything in, we decided that there is no better place and there is no reason to wait. So yes they did blow us away." Virginia assistant Ritchie McKay was the point man on Jerome's recruitment. McKay trailed Jerome much of July, including at the Under Armour Finals during the second evaluation period. Jerome said Bennett called and texted him quite a bit in August. A combo guard, Jerome is versatile and can fulfill a variety of roles on the court. He shoots the ball well from long-range, is crafty off the dribble and has the ability to play on the ball at times. Jerome is UVa's first verbal commitment of the 2016 class.
