Marquette adds Cheatham
As an assistant at Duke, Steve Wojciechowski helped the Blue Devils reel in top level talent and assemble top 10 recruiting classes on a regular basis. Now as the head coach at Marquette, Wojchiechowski continues to have recruiting success. On Friday, Wojchiechowski and his staff picked up their third top 100 prospect of the 2015 class. Haanif Cheatham, a 6-foot-5 guard out of Pembroke (Fla.) Pines Charter, committed to Marquette over California and Georgetown. “Coach Wojo, coach [Brett] Nelson and their whole staff is great,” Cheatham told Scout.com. “They’ve been on me since day one. My visit last weekend just put it all in perspective. It’s a perfect fit. I like their campus, the city and the guys that are there right now. That’s a place that I can become a better person and player.” Wojciechowski and assistant Brett Nelson trailed Cheatham throughout July and he was certainly paying attention. “Just the love coach Wojo and coach Nelson were showing me,” Cheatham said when asked about his commitment. “You know someone really wants you when they are at every game from the live period to the very end, even the blow out games when I only played three minutes.” “I really have a good relationship with coach [Wojciechowski] and that’s what you want from your head coach,” Cheatham added. “Once I visited last week it just put it all in perspective for me.” Cheatham made his way to No. 80 overall in the Scout.com rankings after an impressive summer with Nike Team Florida. A talented and versatile scorer, Cheatham thinks he can make an instant impact at Marquette. “I think I can have an immediate impact,” he said. “I’ll walk in there and nothing will be given and I’ll have to work from day one, but coach Wojo said to me eye to eye that I could make an immediate impact.” Cheatham joins a recruiting class that includes Matt Heldt, Scout.com’s No. 56 ranked prospect, and the No. 89 ranked player Nick Noskowiak.
