Vandy snags pledge

Vanderbilt added some size to the equation with the commitment of Djery Baptiste.

There aren't many players in the country who are more physically imposing than Djery Baptiste. The 6-foot-11 center has a long wing span, can run the floor, and is a major factor on the defensive end, and now he will be making his home in the SEC.

"Djery committed to Vanderbilt, it is a done deal," said guardian Derrick Shelby.

The Commodores made Baptiste a major priority during the spring and summer, and eventually that led to a commitment following a recent visit to the school.

In the end Shelby says that a few factors really were key in getting Baptiste to select the school.

"He saw an opportunity to play right away, and that along with the academics at Vanderbilt made it the right fit," said Shelby.

Baptiste is someone with major potential given his size and athleticism, and he continued to improve all summer with the Texas Titans. Currently he is seen as a three-star prospect.
