Illikainen headed to Big Ten

Wisconsin landed one of their top targets in the 2015 class on Sunday morning.

The Wisconsin Badgers hosted Minnesota native Alex Illikainen over the weekend for an official visit, and it proved to be productive. The 6-foot-8 power forward who is now attending Wolfeboro (NH) Brewster Academy decided to commit to the school.

"Alex has committed to Wisconsin," Brewster Head Coach Jason Smith informed Scout.com.

According to Smith, Illikainen should fit in well with Bo Ryan and the system he runs at Wisconsin.

"Alex brings a skill set to Wisconsin that will great with Coach Ryan's system," said Smith.

He continued, "Alex has good mobility for a kid his size, and can shoot the ball out to three. Coach Ryan has done an excellent job with bigs who have a similar skill set to Alex, and I think that made the difference."

In the end it came down to Iowa and Wisconsin for Illikainen, though he also had offers from Minnesota and Oregon.

This is the second pledge for the Badgers in the 2015 class. Illikainen now joins four-star shooting guard Brevin Pritzl in Ryan's 2015 haul.
