Alston selects Owls

After a recruitment that boiled down to Temple, VCU, Penn State, Notre Dame, Penn, Marquette and others, Levan Alston announced on Tuesday morning in favor of the Owls.

Temple wasn't able to land elite point guard Jalen Brunson this fall, but Fran Dunphy wasn't about to get skunked for the sons of former Temple hoopsters.

Levan Alston pledged to the Owls this morning over VCU and PSU and will give the program a vital scorer. A native of North Philadelphia, Alston competed on the EYBL circuit with Team Final and shot the ball extremely well from long-range.

He buried 39 percent on threes this past spring and summer versus stout national competition, and marksmanship clearly will be his emphasis as he opens his collegiate career.

Temple's addition of Aaron McKie — another alumnus — to the coaching staff played a factor in Alston's decision, and he explained his thought process to Philly.com.

"I was in school thinking about my options. I talked to a lot of guys and asked them how to decide what school to go to … Most of them told me that one day it’s going to just hit you. It hit me on Monday.”
