Ryan Hollins, 6-10 C Pasadena (Calif.) Muir, is one of the elite post players in the West this year. We spoke with him yesterday and he told us that he's narrowed his list to five schools -- Oregon St., Oregon, UTEP, St. Louis and Arizona St.
We asked if any schools in particular stood out for him and Ryan said, "I kind of favor the Pac-10, because of the competition and I grew up watching those teams on television. But I like UTEP because they have a great crowd and they have a chance to win their conference. And I like St. Louis because of Coach Romar and they play in a good conference with teams like Cincinnati and Louisville."
When asked if any coach had made a particular impression over the phone, Hollins said, "UTEP has been expressing a lot of enthusiasm and letting me know that I'm their number one guy. And Coach Romar has been great too. I'd like to play for him, but we'll see how it works out."
Previously Ryan had mentioned possibly waiting until spring. We asked him about that and he said, "I'm going to sign in November. I want to get it done. There's a lot of pressure. If I had one school that I knew was the right one, I'd commit now."
Ryan told us that he plans on having in-homes with all five schools and wants to visit each school as well.
