Jones adding offers
Class of 2016 power forward Tyrique Jones first began to really emerge at the Nike Elite 100, and then continued his strong summer with Xpressions Elite. Now at Saxtons River (VT) Vermont Academy, Jones is picking up offers and grabbing attention. Heading into his junior season the 6-foot-7 Jones says that things are going good. “Fall workouts are going very well,” said Jones. “I like the way how the team is looking and I think we have a good chance of winning a championship here at Vermont Academy. I want to improve on a little bit of everything, but my main focus is to learn the game better.” Recently schools such as Charlotte, Xavier, Kansas State, Texas Tech, and Massachusetts have offered Jones scholarships, and numerous others have come in to check in on him. About the offer from Kansas State, Jones said, “I know that the Head Coach, Bruce Weber, had great success at Illinois. I like the fact that K-State is an up and coming program and they play in a tough conference.” Xavier was one of Jones’ most recent offers, and he says it was good to hear from the Big East school. “When I spoke to Coach (Rick) Carter he said he likes my game and he want to build a relationship with me," explained Jones of Xavier. “I know that David West went to Xavier and from watching them play I can tell that the coach get his players to play hard.” For now Jones says he is in no hurry in his recruitment, and instead he is most focused on preparing for the high school season and improving his game. He does however already have an idea of what he will be looking for in a school when the time does come to make a decision. “I am just looking for the opportunity they present,” said Jones. “I was taught to never have anyone give you anything, you have to earn everything you get.”
