Harvey performs well at back to back events

D.J. Harvey -- one of the top wings in the 2017 class -- had a strong showing at back-to-back events.

A week and a half ago at the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team mini-camp, D.J. Harvey, a standout at Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic, was one of the best wing prospects in attendance.

At 6-foot-5, Harvey is an impressive athlete. He has good size and a solid frame. But what sticks out the most is his ability to score. He’s become a consistent mid-range shooter and his long-range shot is coming along.

While he clearly impressed at USA Basketball, Harvey wasn’t satisfied.

“I think I could have played a lot better,” Harvey said about his play at USA Basketball. “They said I played really well and represented myself well. They said I’m a great leader and I can score and get by anybody I want to.”

His strong play carried over into this past weekend at the John Lucas Midwest Invitational, where he scored virtually at will. His jump shot was working, but he also mixed in strong drives, transition finishes and threes.

Although just a 2017 recruit, Harvey already holds scholarship offers from Texas, Houston, Memphis, Tennessee, Xavier, North Carolina State, Miami and Winthrop.

He has also received phone calls from UCLA, Stanford, Connecticut, Louisville, Ohio State, Kansas, Florida and Duke.

While it’s still early in Harvey’s recruitment, he has taken a recent unofficial visit to Georgetown.

“It was really good,” he said. “I liked that I was in the city. Their coaching staff is really good.”
