On Campus: Big Blue Madness headlines weekend

There is a long list of important visitors this weekend in college basketball, with Kentucky's Big Blue Madness bringing in a very impressive group.

Big Blue Madness has loaded guest list

Kentucky doesn't mess around when it comes to Big Blue Madness. Wildcats head coach John Calipari likes to use the event to host his biggest recruiting weekend of the year and 2014 should be no different.

Rapper Drake will be the headliner as far as the majority of the country is concerned, but to the recruiting world, the six five-star visitors will be a little more important.

UK will host four-star 2015 wing commit Charles Matthews as well as five five-star classmates in small forward Jaylen Brown, shooting guard Malik Newman, center Stephen Zimmerman, power forward Carlton Bragg and small forward Brandon Ingram.

Five-star 2016 small forward Tyus Battle will also be in attendance in what will be one of the top recruiting weekends of the year nationally.

Recruits flocking to Memphis Madness

While Calipari will be busy with his big recruiting weekend, his former program and assistant coach will have several important prospects in town as well.

Memphis head coach Josh Pastner will use his Memphis Madness event to host several high level recruits, including three five-star prospects in 2015 center Skal Labissiere, 2015 power forward commit Dedric Lawson and 2016 center Edrice Adebayo.

The Tigers will also host two four-star commits in 2015 small forward K.J. Lawson and 2016 center Nick Marshall.

Other visitors will include four-star 2016 power forward Tyler Cook, four-star point guard Jalen Fisher, four-star 2016 shooting guard Randall Broddie, 2016 point guard Dillon Mitchell, 2015 point guard Nych Smith, 2016 small forward Micah Thomas, and junior college prospects Jamario Rivers and Jalen McGaughy.

UNLV brings prospects to Scarlet and Gray Showcase

UNLV's annual Scarlet and Gray Showcase on Thursday gave the Rebels an excuse to get several top targets on campus.

The headliners were no doubt Troy Brown, a 2017 point guard prospect ranked second in his class by Scout.com, and Derryck Thornton, Jr., a 2016 five-star point guard.

Thornton, who comes from Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep, was joined by several teammates in 2016 UNLV commit Justin Jackson, 2017 small forward Oshae Briessett and 2017 point guard Shakwon Barrett.

The Rebels also had 2015 Canadian point guard Jalen Poysner, 2015 small forward Derrick Jones and 2017 small forward Charles O'Bannon, Jr.
