For Dedrick, The Process Is Finn-Ished

Dedrick Finn, a point guard from Newburgh (IN) Castle, has reached a decision. Finn recently visited Xavier and was also a target of Mississippi State and Tennessee.

Finn Picks Xavier

Dedrick Finn knew all along that Tuesday was the deadline for a decision if he wished to guarantee himself a scholarship to Xavier. The Musketeers had PG Todd Galloway scheduled for a campus visit later this week. The ball was in Finn's court and his options were to take the Xavier offer or make a visit to Mississippi State and possibly Tennessee, though the Volunteers did get PG CJ Watson on Monday.

On Tuesday, Finn committed to Xavier. "They let Xavier know sometime this morning," Dedrick's mother confirmed with BCH. "This has been a hard decision for him all along."

The hard decision was complicated by a number of factors. Xavier had recruited Finn since Thad Matta's time as the head coach at Butler. For their most part, Xavier's PG recruiting effort centered on the relatively unheralded guard from Southern Indiana. Xavier needed a decision from Finn so that it move forward with its recruiting efforts since it needed to land a guard in this class.

Finn, having set up a trip to MSU and Tennessee, probably would have taken a visit or two in a perfect world, but each side understood where the other was coming from and if Xavier were Finn's top choice, he would need to make a decision in relatively short order. That's exactly what he did.

Finn ranks as a Top 15 point guard in the class and the No. 73 prospect overall on BCH's post-summer Top 100.
