Rakocevic still a priority recruit
Four-star power forward Nick Rakocevic was a bit of an unknown at this time last year. Now the 6-foot-8 junior has a lot of offers, and is primed to have a major impact for Westchester (Ill.) St. Joe’s. “I definitely think we have a great team,” said Rakocevic. “Our whole starting lineup is coming back and we have a chance to win state. Overall we are really working hard and I think we are looking good.” He continued, “All of the hype has been crazy. Now to be considered one of the best players in the state is a blessing. I want to be the best player in the country, so I have to keep working hard and perform on the court.” At nearly 6-foot-9 with skill and solid athleticism, college coaches continue to come through and check in on him as he works through the recruiting process. “I would say UCLA, Florida, Purdue, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, Creighton, Miami, Florida State, Iowa, and Vanderbilt have been talking to me the most,” he explained. One school that has been involved with Rakocevic for a while is Wisconsin, and the Badgers have done an excellent job of recruiting him. “I’ve been there a few times and I have really liked it,” said Rakocevic of Wisconsin. “Bo Ryan is a great coach and I love how they use their big guys to stretch the floor and be versatile. They are showing me a lot of love right now.” Another school that Rakocevic feels is making him a priority is UCLA. “I think UCLA is really interested in me,” said Rakocevic. “They are saying I am one of the main guys they want in 2016. That is big since they say I can play as a freshman, so I am really interested in them. They are telling me I am a priority.” Also the in-state Illini continue to show Rakocevic some major interest. “They are still talking to me and they still want me, and have been to see me play,” he explained. “It is a program I like and I want to see them during the season.” Currently Rakocevic is considered the No. 54 player in the class of 2016.
