Montero commits to USF

Luis Montero informed Scout early Tuesday that he intends to play his college basketball at South Florida.

Luis Montero woke up Tuesday morning with a decision on his mind. So Montero picked up the phone and called Orlando Antigua and gave him a verbal commitment.

"I just want to say that i'm committing to South Florida with Orlando," Montero told Scout.

Montero has taken an unofficial visit to South Florida. He also considered strong interest from SMU, USC, St. John's and a host of other schools.

"I know he's going to take me to the next level," Montero said when asked why he opted for South Florida.

"We got a good relationship," he added about Antigua. "I know we are going to be better."

A 6-foot-7 wing, Montero is versatile and skilled. He's a talented passer that sees the floor. He thrives in transition, whether it's making a play for himself or teammates. Montero is also a talented passer.

Montero is a native of the Dominican Republic.
