Narain off to strong start

Four-star power forward Nolan Narain is off to a strong start this season.

It is his first year playing in the United States, and Nolan Narain is making a very strong impression already. The four-star power forward at La Porte (Ind.) La Lumiere is really opening eyes this season.

“He has had an incredibly strong start to the year and is playing with a very active motor he is pursuing rebounds out of his area,” said La Lumiere Head Coach Shane Heirman. “He is doing a better job of using his length and size to score in a variety of ways right now.”

In fact Heirman says that Narain has showed him serious upside at 6-foot-8 and 205 pounds.

“He has by far the most upside of anybody on our team,” said Heirman. “My expectations are for him to grow as a player and to continue to understand the competition at the highest level and to continue to grow and expand his game.”

Recruiting wise things are just beginning for Narain, but already a handful of schools have really stepped up the pursuit of him.

“Really it has been everybody who has seen him,” noted Heirman. “The people in the mix recruiting him the hardest would be New Mexico, Miami, Notre Dame, Illinois, and Gonzaga. There are a lot of other schools though.”

At this point Heirman says that Narain’s recruitment is just beginning to pick up, and that he has no specific timetable to make a commitment.

For now Narain is focused on improving and learning what it takes to dominate every time out on the floor.

“I think from the competition at practice he has learned to play harder and be more assertive,” noted Heirman. “He is now competing at a higher level and understands the intensity and passion needed to compete every day.”

Currently Narain is the No. 10 power forward and the No. 71 player overall in the class of 2016.
