Baxter has two leaders

While Gavin Baxter is making progress in his game, the 2016 forward is also advancing his recruitment.

The top available four man on the west in 2016 is Gavin Baxter, a 6-foot-7, 175-pound junior from Timpview (Utah).

A versatile forward with a long wingspan, Baxter is very athletic, tough, plays hard, rebounds, and can score inside and out.

“I’ve been working on my ball handling and doing a lot of off the dribble stuff. My court awareness has improved,” Baxter said. “I still need to get my ball handling better; that’s probably the weakest part of my game right now.”

In recent months, Baxter has seen his recruitment really expand.

"It was going slow for a bit and then it kind of hit me," he said.

BYU, Arizona State, Utah State, Gonzaga, California and Southern Utah are all showing Baxter attention, with two of those programs standing out.

"BYU and Arizona State," Baxter said.

The four-star prospect broke down what he likes about each program.

BYU: "I like BYU because it’s close to home; it’s right there in my backyard and I like the coaching staff."

Arizona State: "I love the state of Arizona; the weather is great year round and they have great facilities and a great coaching staff."

Baxter, who will take an LDS mission right out of high school, is taking his time before making a decision.

"It could be this summer or before the start of next school year," he said. "I’m in no rush. It will be the best fit."
