Jones talks visits

Four-star guard Curtis Jones is having a solid season and has been making unofficial visits.

Four-star class of 2016 guard Curtis Jones is working to refine his game at Huntington (WV) Prep. The 6-foot-2 Jones has played off the ball most of his life, but now as a junior he is working to become more of a point guard.

In his first year at Huntington Prep Jones has had a solid season, and says that he is enjoying the experience and is continuing to improve.

“It is a lot of fun to be here,” said Jones of Huntington Prep. “It is hard in practice and you have to work every day, but it is a good place to be.”

He continued, “I like playing point guard a lot. I feel like point guard is my natural position. Coach Arkell (Bruce) is a great guard coach and he has been helping me a lot, and I feel like it is going well.”

Recruiting wise schools such as VCU, Ohio State, Missouri, Louisville, Maryland, Indiana, West Virginia, Cincinnati, NC State, Virginia, and others have been involved in his recruitment.

Recently Jones made an unofficial visit to VCU, and as always came away excited about the school.

“That’s right at home,” said Jones. “It is always good to be home, and I got to watch them play. They were one of the first schools to recruit me and I am real close with that coaching staff.”

Also Ohio State has been recruiting Jones very hard, and he took a fall visit to Columbus and came away impressed.

“That was a great visit,” said Jones of Ohio State. “The campus is amazing. Coach (Dave) Dickerson is the one recruiting me, so it was good to meet the other coaches and to get to talk with Coach (Thad) Matta.”

Current Missouri assistant Rob Fulford actually recruited Jones to Huntington Prep, and now is doing the same for college. Jones also recently had a chance to visit Mizzou.

“It was a good trip,” said Jones. “Coach Fulford is a great guy, and I know he really cares and that means a lot.”

After the season Jones says he wants to get out and see Maryland, Indiana, and Louisville. While he is making several visits, no decision is close for Jones.

While no choice is expected soon for Jones, he does know what he will be looking for in a program.

“I am just looking at the schools that are interested in me, play my style of play, and have great coaches who will help develop me for the next level,” said Jones.
